During November, Sue and I tried out a "girl project". We named it "Half a World Away - Days vs Nights". Twice a week, at a nominated time, Sue and I would take a photo that best represented our lives at that moment. The idea was that we would post these photos next to each other on our blogs and there would be some interesting juxtaposition: London vs Sydney, days vs nights, Winter vs Summer.

We had such a fun time that we decided that we'd try to continue the project in 2009. We're going to aim for once a week now so it's our own Project 52.

While I was in Sydney, Sue and I thought it would be funny to start the new project with a photo. Of course, we were both in the same place at the same time, so not really any juxtaposition there (but definitely a few giggles.)

2009: Day 1 The beginning

Look out for Project 52. Hope you enjoy it!

Back to London mornings and Sydney evenings.

From London:
"This is the view from my window at work. If I lean to the right a little bit I can also see the London Eye. If lean to the right a lot I can see the Houses of Parliament. In the mornings while I'm waiting for my computer to boot, I like to watch the people walking across Golden Jubilee Bridge on their way to work. Throughout the day, when I need a break I'll look out the window and watch the boats floating by. There is a red barge that is transporting big yellow containers up and down the Thames. The level of the river changes with the tide. I use the pillars of the bridge to see just how high or low it is. There is always a different view when I glance over. The colour of the light alone makes it different. I understand why Monet was compelled to paint the same London scene, a view of Parliament House, over and over again."

Another round of Sydney mornings and London evenings.

"So, yes, we are at home on a Saturday night. Relaxing on the couch and watching Monkey. We did make it out of the house today. But it was not what you would call a successful day. Our tour at the Benjamin Franklin House was cancelled and our lunch at the National Dining Rooms never arrived. We did manage to meet Natalie and the Londonist Group on a Blue Posts Pub Crawl, but we didn't complete the crawl (a crawl of only 5 pubs, we're a bit sad.) We skipped out at pub number three and headed home via sausages and mash at S&M. Monkey is the perfect end to a mixed but still fun day."

Another round of Sydney mornings and London evenings.

From London:
I stopped to admire the Christmas lights on my way to Hamleys for a spot of Christmas shopping. I think they are a bit boring this year. Not very Christmasy at all. The first year we were in London I went to watch them turn on the Christmas lights. Last year, I don't think I even saw the Christmas lights at all. This year, I only saw them because I was in town. We're no longer tourists; we're becoming real Londoners. When referring to London, the word "home" has slipped out of my mouth more frequently lately. When I talk about our upcoming trip to Australia, I keep saying we're flying home in early December and returning home on new year's eve. My subconscious reveals my heart's state of confusion. I'm sure Australia will win in the end.

Still on London mornings and Sydney evenings.

From London:
Andrew and I live a few blocks away from Portobello Road market. We popped out early this morning for a coffee. Saturday is market day and Portobello road gets crazy busy with tourists. The trick to avoiding the crowds is to head out early. As we walked along Portobello this morning, the stall owners were still setting up but we could actually move. Other locals were also out at this time buying fruit and veggies. After 10am the road is gridlocked and the market is a nightmare.
