Last night was the Movember Gala. A party held to celebrate the men who participate in Movember and raised money for a good cause. The men of Movember were invited to dress up in the style of their Mo. Mosistas were also invited to dress up, either to match their Mobro or in whatever took their fancy.

Andrew has a cowboy style moustache so he dressed up as a cowboy. I dressed up as cowgirl to complement Andrew. (I'm a big fan of Andrew's cowboy hat. It makes his moustache bearable. ) We went to the party with DC (cowboy), Claudia (Indian) and Steve (118 guy). We also ran into Martin (Moverick) and Bronwyn while we were there.


It was a fun night. I had a great time just checking out all the costumes. Some guys had gone to quite an effort. I've put together a little gallery of some of the more impressive costumes.

It's the last week of Movember and your last chance to sponsor Andrew before the Mo disappears forever (yay!).


Today, Andrew went to Mo's Emporium to have his moustache professionally trimmed and styled. Mo's is a special barbershop set up just for Movember. There are 4 barbers chairs and 4 male stylists all sporting impressive moustaches. The walls are covered with snapshots of men with moustaches who have been to Mo's for a bit of mo flavoured TLC. There are also framed photos of Movember Mo-dels: Burt Reynolds, Borat, Groucho Marx, and Charlie Chaplin.


After 15 minutes in the chair, Andrew's mo is now a little bit less scruffy (I still can't use the word attractive though.)

We're halfway through Movember now. Hooray!


So, all along I've been calling Andrew's moustache a handlebar when it's not. According to Wikipedia, a handlebar moustache is "moustache with particularly lengthy, often graspable, extremities". The side bits of a handlebar moustache are not attached to the face. Andrew is growing a horseshoe moustache, one which was favoured by cowboys in the Wild West. It's a " full moustache with vertical extensions from the corners of the lips down to the jawline and resembling an upside-down horseshoe".

I found lots of useful information on this site The Handlebar Club. It's a social club for men who grow handlebar moustaches. They have a very interesting FAQ section, answering questions such as What sort of comb should I use?, What is a moustache cup?, What is a snood? and Can I make my own moustache wax?. Go and check it out. Your life is not complete until you know what a snood is.
